Wills and trusts, winding up estates and estate planning
Making a Will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death. It is important under English law to make a will so that:
- You can decide who will inherit - otherwise the laws on intestacy decide
- You don't pay more inheritance tax than is necessary
- If you have property overseas that your estate is dealt with quickly and cost effectively after your death.
- If you are an unmarried couple (whether or not of the same sex) you can ensure that your partner inherits (this does not happen automatically)
- If you have children under 18 a named guardian is appointed
- If you are divorced you can decide whether to leave anything to an ex-partner if they are living with someone else
Imison & Co can assist and advise on the drafting of Wills in accordance with English law and have particular experience in drafting Wills in accordance with Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese and Turkish law.
We ensure that your English and foreign Wills are complementary to each other, and that
