China will soon require only Apostille

China has acceded to the Hauge Convention treaty of 5th October 1961 on 8th March 2023 which should take full effect from 7th November 2023.

Until 7th November the current requirements for China will remain in effect:

Notarisation of documents by a Notary + Apostille from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office + Attestation from the Chinese Embassy.

The Chinese Embassy currently provides two attestation services:

  • Approximately £64 for standard service per document (4 working days)
  • Approximately £95 for express service per document (3 working days)

From 7th November 2023 the Chinese Embassy Attestation should no longer be required, thus the only requirements should be to have documents notarised and Apostilled by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
